Two anthropomorphic figures are standing in the foreground, one of them facing the other – a black ghostly apparition peeping from around the corner. It looks so vivid and monstrous it’s hard to believe the creature is nothing but a scarecrow. Yet the human person faces the scarecrow as an actual and formidable adversary, as for when the war is on, people fight with the scarecrows.
