The Paradigm of Silence belongs to Oksana Stratiychuk’s Classical series of etchings. In this series, created in the early 1990s, the artist reinterprets classical mythology, touching upon ancient and biblical narratives from a contemporary female perspective. This deconstruction has a delicate and somewhat ironic character. And yet, in her Classical series, Oksana Stratiychuk constructs a harmonious world of women, free daughters of nature unbound by myths or culture. It’s a world where conflict is only conceivable in the form of a game. The Paradigm of Silence is one of the concluding pieces of the Classical series. Its action unfolds within the same abstract time and space framework as other works in the series. However, this particular piece doesn’t engage with a specific narrative, unlike the others. The Paradigm of Silence poetically conveys a sensory experience, an innate understanding of certain concepts like freedom or love, which are lost when translated into words. This transmission can only occur in silence and presence, a space artistically crafted by the artist. The viewer is left to gaze, to remain silent, to contemplate, and to feel.
