Named after the book by Ernest Hemingway, Oksana Stratiychuk’s multiple intaglio piece And the Sun Also Rises... continues her latest Universal Landscape series. Initiated during relatively peaceful times, this series explores the timeless manifestations of nature and the elements, the conventionality of human definitions of nature, and, conversely, the comprehensiveness, universality, and repetitiveness of natural phenomena. Oksana persists in her work on this series in 2022-2023, while residing in Ukraine during the ongoing war. The harsh reality inevitably seeps even into an ideal landscape, yet the artist’s will is mightier than reality. Thus, in her new artworks, there is a newfound hope and unwavering belief that the sun always rises, again and again, casting light upon the boundless space.
